A SPEECH DELIVERED BY MOSES ESSIEN, PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANT, AT A PRESS CONFERENCE, BEING PART OF ACTIVITIES TO MARK HIS FORMAL DECLARATION FOR GOVERNORSHIP OF AKWA IBOM STATE, TODAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2006.

I have the singular honour and privilege to
most warmly welcome all of you, gentlemen of the press, to this
all-important press conference. I have chosen to consult you gentlemen
of the press, as a mark of respect to your enviable endowments
and prowess. It is these endowments and prowess, which you individually
carry and command, that has made you continue to occupy an indispensable
position in the building of our Society.
Worthy of note are your immense contributions in the area of moulding
public opinion, shaping public policy direction and setting the
agenda on how best to move a state or nation forward. Gentlemen,
you will agree with me that any profession that is able to achieve
all these, as you have done, must be an enviable one.
Today gentlemen, I have invited all of you here to inform you
of my intention to formally and publicly declare for the office
of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State come 2007, on Wednesday
November 15, 2006. The declaration shall be first to the party
(the People’s Democratic Party) at the State Secretariat, 139
Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, and then to the entire people of Akwa Ibom
State, at the Amphi-theatre Ibom Plaza, Uyo.
It is on the strength of this all-important public event that
I formally invite all of you members of the press, to collectively
attend and play the leading role which you are known for. Also
invited to this great event is His Excellency, Arc. Obong Victor
Attah and the entire state executive council. Others are, the
Political Class, Royal Fathers, Religious Leaders, The Business
Community, Women and Youth Organizations, All Akwa Ibom People
within and outside the State, friends, in-laws and well-wishers
of Akwa Ibom State.
As State and national agenda Programmers, opinion moulders, and
public policy influencers, which you all are, I humbly implore
you to help the people of Akwa Ibom State in their quest for a
credible and God fearing Governor come 2007. You have the moral,
social and public responsibility to do this for us.
Gentlemen, I make bold to say here that if leadership is to draw
from experience, antecedence, track record of past performances,
vision, mission, strength of character, accountability, courage,
industry, ability, humility and the fear of God, Akwa Ibom People,
both young and old know that Moses Essien has more than all these
to successfully lead the people of Akwa Ibom State to the land
of fulfillment.
I call on you gentlemen of the press to examine me in the context
of all these virtues and judge for yourselves if by 29th May 2007,
I will not be the only man standing to be sworn in as the next
Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
My plans and programmes of action are clearly spelt out in my
Policy and Development Blueprint for Akwa Ibom State which shall
be made public on the day of official declaration – Wednesday,
November 15, 2006.
May I say here that as God sent Moses in the days of old to deliver
the children of Israel, so also has HE sent me this day to bring
transformation to the people and land of Akwa Ibom State.
I thank you all for this great opportunity as I look forward to
receiving you on the 15th November 2006.
