PDP ward leaders in Uyo have pledged their support for
the governorship bid of MOSES ESSIEN
PDP ward leaders in Uyo have pledged their support for the governorship
bid of Moses Essien. This position was taken at a familiarization
meeting the ward leaders had with him in Uyo recently.
The Governorship aspirant, who received the ward leaders with
open arms, greeted them with a popular Christian chorus glorifying
God for the bountiful blessing in his life and upon the State.
The spokesperson for the group who was also the convener of the
meeting, said their support for Moses Essien’s ambition is due
not only to his youthfulness and vision for the State, but his
enviable track record when he was Commissioner for Education,
Youth and Sports. He cited the chieftaincy title, which was jointly
conferred on Moses Essien by several Local Government Areas in
the State –a rare thing in the area – as sign that he was cut
out for great things in life.
The spokesman also qualified Uyo L.G.A as most strategic in elections
in the State since it is always a harbour of electoral monitors
from sundry institutions during election days, thus making the
area less prone to electoral malpractices.
The ward leaders reiterated their support that power should shift
to Ikot Ekpene senatorial District, but that it should not be
the exclusive right of the Annangs as the Ibibio people of Ikono
and Ini are equally of that Senatorial District and should be
made to have a sense of belonging in the senatorial district.
In his response, the aspirant said he was God’s choice for the
State. He bemoaned the fate of the common man and promised to
ameliorate the situation if he is elected Governor. He vowed to
stop the houseboy / house girl syndrome in the State and spoke
extensively on the importance of education which he said would
be free, qualitative and compulsory under his administration.
